Description
The Peasants' War has been interpreted in many different ways: As a 'revolution of the common man', as a struggle for economic resources, as a religious conflict, and as a multitude of individual regional uprisings. This volume examines the concepts and ideas that the leading actors developed with regard to the organisation of their communities. What concepts of communities and their organisation can be found in the available evidence? What ideas of norms and organisation, but also of participation, can be identified? How could these be enforced? What legal forms were conceivable? What role did ideas of domestic community and gender play? How did the Peasants' War feed into later thinking about the state and statehood?
Ulrich Niggemann has been researching revolts and revolutions in the early modern period for some time.
