Description
Since they suffer from persistent poverty the countries in Latin America are among those where inequality is at its greatest occurrence. The World Bank Group aims high at supporting Latin American countries to fight these problems.
The paper analyzes the activities of the World Bank Group in the areas of health, education and employment as well as infrastructure and rural development. The focus is on four Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Mexico.
The paper shows the legal bases of the activities of the World Bank Group and illustrates the instruments of the organization to take influence on national policies. It examines if the work of the World Bank Group does actually aim at reducing poverty and promoting equality and asks how meaningful and important the activities are for Latin American countries.
