Details
The criminal case against Giessen doctor Kristina Hänel has made legal history: In 2017, the Giessen public prosecutor's office charged Hänel with a violation of Section 219a of the German Criminal Code (StGB). The process through the criminal courts took several years and ended with a conviction. On June 24, 2022, the German Bundestag abolished the provision of § 219a StGB without replacement and overturned all relevant criminal convictions. This anthology documents the historical process and the strategy of "successful defeat" used by ifw – Institut für Weltanschauungsrecht. From the ifw's point of view, it was obvious that the discussion could not stop at § 219a StGB. The debate on § 218 StGB was an inevitable consequence.
