Details
After the first coronation of a Prussian king in 1701, the Potsdam Garrison Church quickly became the religious center of a military state that spent 80 percent of its budget on the army. Only by closely linking politics, religion and the military was Prussia able to catch up with the leading powers of Europe. The proximity to the Lord of Hosts made the Prussian eagle the ideal symbol of power for the Hohenzollern monarchy. While the Weimar Republic condemned his memory, he set out on a new political and military high in 1933 and 1939 respectively. The restoration of his political integrity is therefore highly controversial.
