The work deals with the question of whether breaches of the rules on the soccer pitch should be sanctioned under criminal law. A differentiated assessment is made with regard to the potential forms of offence on the basis of the known substantive legal problem areas. In addition to a review of past and current case law, the author conducts a survey of over 3,000 referees and soccer players on various issues relating to the aforementioned topic. The author incorporates his knowledge as a Bundesliga referee throughout the work in order to finally find a targeted criminal law solution.
