Description
Artificial intelligence and increasing automation will not stop at the shipping industry and thereby lead to a variety of questions. This thesis analyzes the consequences regarding liability in case of a ship collision involving autonomously operating vessels. It is examined whether the German law (HGB, Deliktische Produzentenhaftung, ProdHaftG, Deliktsrecht), as well as the IÜZ (Collision Convention, 1910), can cope with the technical developments of the coming years. Based on the results, proposals are made for potential adaptations of liability law, differing in their intensity of intervention.
