With modernity, technology became part of a societal waiting for something new. The ‘novelty bias’ generally selects what we understand as our technological culture. As the technology historian David Edgerton describes it, it seems appropriate for us to display donkey carts in ‘folkloric museums’, while we look at aeroplanes in technology museums. Do we need a new methodological approach to tame this novelty bias? In this issue of Jahrbuch Technikphilosophie focusses on concepts and forms of reflection with which technical change should be observed, recorded and understood.
