The essays here collected show Vegetti's research work in different fields of History of Ancient Thought such as: Ethics, Politics, Anthropology, History of Medicine and Science, and Philosophical Historiography.
Some of the papers are devoted to topics concerning the forms of subjectivity, anthropological theories, and the formation of the concept of cause, other studies deal with Plato, Aristotle, Stoicism, Hellenistic Medicine, and Galen. Some considerations about the philosophical historiography of the ancient thought, the idea of classicism and modern ethical and philosophical theories close the volume.

More and above, the book expounds a method of working: the 'dialog with the ancients' is continuously drawn by the author by means of a thorough exam of the texts and by means of questions asking for answers both on a historiographic and on a theoretical level.
