Description
The geoeconomic differences between central and the periphery regions in Europe is not the result of the European Integration process since World War II, but a phenomenon which has been present for centuries. The author proves the existence of a central zone of remarkable socio-spatial continuity – reaching from the south-east of England to the Benelux-Countries, the West and South of Germany, the north-east and south-east of France to Switzerland and the North of Italy. In this zone the economical, political and cultural developments and changes have taken place since centuries. This space is to be designated as the long-term centre of the European economic and cultural development and as the heart of the European system of states. It is likely that the future economical winner-regions of the European Integration will be found there.
