Die Förderung Erneuerbarer Energien in Deutschland, dem Vereinigten Königreich und Frankreich

Alternative energy sources are expected to play a leading role in the generation of electricity. However, they are still more expensive than conventional fuels and are therefore subsidised by the state. But it is still highly controversial which instrument promotes renewable energy in the most effective and efficient way.
The author compares the support schemes in Germany, the United Kingdom and France in order to make recommendations for the optimisation of the legal framework. The work examines the primary instruments feed-in tariffs, market premiums, tenders and quotas as well as grid issues and the financial burden for electricity consumers in the three countries. Scientific assumptions and the legislator’s motivation are validated on the basis of the practical impacts. At the same time, the description of current French and British legislation fills a gap for legal practitioners – especially against the background of EU-wide calls for tenders.
