This study provides a comprehensive overview of the development of Italian migration cinema since the 1990s, whose central themes are addressed against the backdrop of sociopolitical upheaval and reflected upon within the context of cultural studies perspectives. The study particularly examines the choice or adaptation of established film genres, the narrative construction of plotlines, and the various techniques of cinematic mediation. The mechanisms of audience reception employed in these feature films concretise the range of perspectives on migration and the societal issues associated with them.
