Liability arising from comfort letters is still subject to uncertainties, which this dissertation aims to help eliminate. It therefore analyses the liability arising from internal and external comfort letters in groups of companies. Both soft and hard comfort letters are taken into account. The circumstances under which liability, whether at primary or secondary level, comes into question are elaborated and it is analysed whether comfort letters fulfil their intended function in the individual case. Finally, the results obtained are used to analyse how statutory liability in groups of companies is modified by the existence of comfort letters.
