How can future journalists be optimally prepared for their profession? Marcella Rosenberger analyses journalism higher education in Germany and develops a practice-oriented competence model. Based on a comprehensive empirical analysis of journalism bachelor programmes and interviews with lecturers, she examines the impact of changes in the media and universities on journalism education and identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the programmes. Based on the findings, the author formulates concrete recommendations for teachers to ensure journalistic quality and prepare students for a highly dynamic professional field.
