Die Personennamen in der römischen Provinz Noricum

This detailed reference work provides the first comprehensive survey of all those people identifiable by name in epigraphical or literary sources who were permanent residents of the Roman province of Noricum or who lived there for a long or short period. Individuals are listed separately by nomina and cognomina. Unlike other dictionaries and indexes, and in order to give greater value to the list, not only the partial name and reference but the full name is always given. The catalogue also gives details of where the name was found, the chronological place of the inscription and – as far as is known – the status of the named person (military rank, profession, family connections etc.). Reference is also made to a person’s ethnic origin or place of birth. All names, people and inscriptions include references to the most important literature. As well as a linguistic definition of the names, the catalogue also offers an overview of each name’s distribution across the rest of the Latin empire.
