Description
With the eight letters of consolation by Bishop Braulio of Zaragoza (ca. 585 to 651 AD), this volume is dedicated to the literary work of a transitional figure between late antiquity and the early Middle Ages who has hitherto received little attention from scholars. The author first embeds the letters of consolation in their context with a detailed introduction to Braulio's life and work as well as to consolation literature in general. This is followed by the first translation of Braulio's letters of consolation into German. Each letter is accompanied by the original Latin text and a detailed line-by-line commentary, making this volume an indispensable resource for the study of literature in early medieval Spain.
