The book contains the contributions to the symposium „The Constitution of the European Economic System“ which was held in October 2016 at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law in Hamburg to celebrate the 90th birtday of Ernst-Joachim Mestmäcker. The articles cover important developments within the main areas of interest in the scholarly work of E.-J. Mestmäcker and show the impressive bandwidth of his academic interests. Following a laudatio by Peter Behrens, Vassilios Skouris highlights the role of fundamental freedoms in the European economic constitution. Michael Köhler explores the philosohical principles of the European constitution. Further contributions deal with the development of the law of corporate groups within the European context (Holger Fleischer), with the European antitrust law (Johannes Laitenberger) and with the relationship between media diversity and competition (Jan Klement).
