Die Vierundzwanzig Landrechte

In this study of the Twenty-four Land-laws, the Old Frisian text is analysed from the perspective of its function as law. For the first time, all surviving Old Frisian versions are systematically considered in a comparative analysis. The study focuses on identifying the legal structure and legal meaning of the Land-laws. On this basis, fundamental questions studied by Old Frisian scholars for centuries are reconsidered. The study shows that in the Twenty-four Land-laws material of different origins and ages has been processed and combined in a legally sophisticated way into a coherent work.
