The study examines the effects of settlements in cartel damages law under Art. 19 of Directive 2014/104/EU and under general civil law on joint and several liability. It shows how an efficient and fair balance between cartelists and claimants can be achieved by carefully weighing the interests of all parties. Methodologically, it provides an analysis of EU and US law, a critical evaluation of different scenarios, and an assessment of potential internal and external effects of settlements. The work offers practical guidance through several examples and contributes to the development of European cartel damages law.
