Due to demographic change, the number of elderly people with degenerative diseases is increasing. As a result, slow, non-acute dying has to be treated and accompanied more and more frequently in hospitals. This results in an interface between intensive care medicine and palliative medicine, on whose interdisciplinary cooperation there has been little research literature to date.
Using the example of palliative nursing and medical care for dying people and their relatives in Hamburg's intensive care units, the author investigates this research gap. A total of 14 nursing and medical experts were interviewed and the results analysed.
