Digitale Arenen oder digitale Agora?

Social media are widely regarded as new public spaces for democratic dialogue. But do they actually encourage rational social discourse? This book examines the concept of the 'digital Agora' from philosophical and socio-ethical perspectives. Drawing on classical concepts of the public sphere, democracy, and critical thinking, it analyses how algorithmic control, the economic logic of platforms, and forms of digital communication impact the quality of public debate. It also considers the conditions under which digital spaces can become venues for democratic participation, as well as the challenges that stand in the way of realising this potential.
