Tim Schneider analyses the professional treatment of drug-using queer people in the support system in the Nuremberg region. The experience of queer hostility and specific other problems can lead those affected to self-medicate as a coping strategy. Based on interviews with social workers and a doctor, he analyses how attitudes, perceptions and actions are shaped and states that non-moralising, appreciative approaches dominate, but that specific contact points for LGBTIQ* people who use drugs are lacking. The author provides valuable insights for social work research and practice as well as for the further development of support services.
