Ein Blick in den Abgrund

At the beginning of the 21st century, writing about the Shoah in French literature is undergoing transformation processes. Soazig Aaron, Frédéric Brun, Philippe Claudel and Jean-Pierre Gattégno transform the survivor, including his duality, into a literary figure and place a clear focus on seeing as perception and metaphor. They combine this with a critical self-reflection on the writing process and on the strategies of verbalisation. The factual aspects of the Shoah fade into the background in favour of a lucid critique of society and humanity. With this double trace, the trace of the victims and the trace of the awareness of human abysses, the texts stimulate social changes.
