Emotionen in Politik und Gesellschaft
Description
Emotions, such as compassion for the suffering of others or the fear of war and poverty, are omnipresent in international politics. Nevertheless, for a long time reason and not feeling were considered to be the greatest human achievements. However, the most recent groundbreaking findings in the neurosciences call this dictum into question: Emotion and rationality, feeling and reason, do not represent a contradiction but rather condition one another. This leads to fundamental questions that the discipline of international relations (IR) should ask itself: What can emotions contribute to the central research questions and analyses of international politics? Is there a theory of emotion and is it even desirable? How can emotions be captured meth-odologically and empirically?
