Description
What must academia and society take into account in order to do justice to the world’s historical and political complexity? This volume examines gaps, reinterpretations, and conflicts in disciplines, institutions, and publics engage with their own (disciplinary) histories. At its core lies the question of the extent to which these histories can be understood as entangled histories of knowledge, interests, violence, loss, and resistance. The contributions adopt multidirectional perspectives and connect institutional, local, and national histories with global, (post-)colonial, and (post-)migrant contexts. Particular attention is paid to Martin Luther University and the city of Halle (Saale) – global orders become visible in local settings.
