Ethnische Differenzierung und soziale Schichtung in der Südtiroler Gesellschaft

Modern societies, even on a local level, are experiencing structural changes as a result of modernisation and globalisation. Despite some similarities in their social fabric, each of them also has idiosyncrasies which are related to population structure, social geographical circumstances, economic structure and general political conditions. This is especially true of the autonomous province of Bolzano in South Tyrol, which is different to other (neighbouring) regions in many respects and thus constitutes an interesting case study in Europe.
This study provides a comprehensive sociological analysis of South Tyrolian society and pays particular attention to its multi-ethnic and multicultural composition. It focuses on subjects such as its education system, job market, wealth and income levels, the types of family found there, reproductive labour, the population’s participation in politics, their awareness of social inequalities, and subjective quality of life.
