How does European integration change involved societies? Which social problems arise in the process? Does it even lead to the formation of a European society? These and other questions are addressed by the sociology of European integration which has been developing since the 1990s, when it became clear that European integration has not only political, economic and legal, but also societal consequences for the member states of the European Union. This textbook gives Sociology and European Studies students an insight into central theoretical perspectives and topics of this comparatively young and constantly developing field of research and teaching and, at the same time, conveys fundamental sociological issues and key concepts to them.
