The art-historical work provides an in-depth insight into the phenomenon of castles converted into monasteries, which was widespread throughout the Western world during the Middle Ages. The author, who is regularly involved in excavations, uses his knowledge of castle research to be able to adequately interpret the corresponding irregularities in the topography and the overall layout of a monastic complex - a methodological approach that makes perfect sense according to the Berlin state archaeologist, Prof. Dr Matthias Wemhoff. The work is a useful basis for future research into castles and monasteries.
