Description
This longitudinal study of 2,847 secondary school students examines how personality and efficacy beliefs influence participation in music culture. Participation in general, formal and informal contexts is measured using a validated scale. Openness and agreeableness promote informal participation, whereas neuroticism inhibits participation in general and formal contexts. Musical ability self-concept is the strongest predictor of participation in all contexts. No mediation effect of efficacy beliefs could be proven.
