Description
Although religion, science and technology generally seem to be mutually exclusive in the modern understanding of everyday life, the present work takes on the task of showing that the aforementioned phenomena are characterized by a deep kinship with regard to their relation to the human experience of uncertainty and that their relationship in dealing with the contingency of the lifeworld is of a complementary rather than competitive nature. The analysis of the similarities and differences between religious and scientific-technical references to contingency represents the pivotal point of the study and shows that modern science and technology would not be possible without religion.
