Filmfinanzierung
Nomos, 2. Edition 2014, 195 Pages
Details
On international markets, European movies are in a difficult position against the overwhelming U.S. competition. In response to corresponding financing problems, individual strategies and support mechanisms have emerged in many EU Member States, which are having a sustained impact on the success of their local film industries.
Whereas common professional literature is focusing on national film funding, this book takes a comparative perspective: specific funding instruments in Germany, France and the U.K. are presented in comparative form, for the first time complemented by a description of U.S. strategies. In addition, options for European co-productions are outlined.
In their analysis, the authors evaluate current data from funding agencies, expert interviews and specialist publications from all four countries. Their practice-oriented approach is illustrated by meaningful case studies and reveals potential film financing strategies, taking into account recent developments, e. g., augmented tax schemes and microfinancing.
