Details
In this book, the authors examine the laws that govern the notary profession from the perspective of legal history. Their research formed part of the project ‘Form – Verfahren – Struktur’ (Form—Process—Structure), which was conducted for the conference entitled ‘Berufsrecht der Notare seit 1800’ (The Laws that have governed the Notary Profession since 1800), which was organised by the Rhenish Institute of Notarial Law. The book consist of four essays. In the first, using European examples, Prof. emer. Dr Schubert studies notary associations, the qualifications needed to become a notary and disciplinary proceedings. In the second, the notary Dr Vossius comprehensively examines the image of notaries in the 19th and 20th centuries using different lines of narrative. In the third essay, Prof. Dr Schmoeckel discusses the development of official notarial records in the 19th and 20th centuries, while in the fourth Prof. Dr Schäfer, LL.M. (Cambridge) appraises notarial training.
