Description
UN peace operations are crucial actors in conflict areas all over the world. Their ability to operate in conflicts, however, largely depends on the creation of both security and legitimacy, especially when interacting with local actors. “Framing Peace” explores this nexus of security provision and public information by focusing on police components of UN peace operations, and develops the concept of organizational framing in order to explain the functioning of UN peace operations in the respective conflict areas. The book includes case studies on the UN peace operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Liberia, while reflecting on the development of UN peace operations in general from 1996 to 2006.
