Description
The origination of Sikhism through Guru Nanak in 15th century India led to a revolutionary liberalisation and elevation of the status of women. Throughout time, Sikh women have experienced expansions but also limitations of their gender roles, and in this work, they themselves speak out for the first time in this regard. They speak about their status, their role and their self-image as women in society and, due to the loss of their equality in many areas of life, call for a return to the original teachings of the gurus. The author primarily focuses on the situation of Sikh women in India and Austria.
