Description
The thesis is the first of its kind to offer solutions and a basis for discussion for the many legal and ethical questions arising with regard to brain organoids. Brain organoids are three-dimensional brain models generated from IPSCs, which form by way of self-organisation. Complex questions arise, particularly with regard to the possible status of brain organoids (and novel entities in general) that develop (precursors of) consciousness, with regard to ownership and consent, and with regard to data protection when using biological material to generate them, as well as with regard to enhancement with brain organoids. Among other things, the thesis is intended to be a starting point for the inevitable regulatory debate.
