“You can‘t judge that!“ – Considering one‘s own judgement to be absolute or unique is one of the biggest pitfalls of political judgement. At the same time, however, it is a widespread tendency. There is a declining willingness to seek common ground in disputes and to put aside differences. In short, there is a lack of public spirit and judgement. What should political education achieve in this context? Johannes Schmoldt develops a philosophical foundation for political education and proposes that public spirit and judgement should once again be understood as fundamental goals of political education. Political education should open up spaces for practice so that judgement based on public spirit can be promoted and reflected upon.
