Over the past 30 years, the Austrian writer Karl-Markus Gauss has repeatedly dealt with life in Europe in various literary forms (essay, diary, journal). His focus is on the repressed, the marginalised and those threatened with oblivion, especially in Austria, Central and South-Eastern Europe. This does not give rise to nostalgia, but rather reveals a Europe whose order was not a given, but was and is always in a state of flux. European thinking is not a goal here, but practice and everyday life.
