Description
As a literary figure of world stature, Goethe spent a lifetime working on his pioneering idea of world literature and world poetry. He finally gave this concern concrete form and shape at an advanced age by creating the work West-östlicher Divan in memory of Persian literature and culture and above all the Persian poet Hafis. In this way, Goethe effectively acted not only as a German man of letters, but also as a literary and cultural mediator between the Occident and the Orient. Goethe's concept and message have lost none of their fascination and topicality to this day.
