Habermas und die Europäische Union

The EU is facing an existential crisis. The fragility of the political state of the Union, precipitated by the unresolved eurozone crisis, Brexit and the threat of populism, has intensified the need to regenerate the legitimacy of its institutions. This book conducts a normative analysis from a Habermasian perspective. For this purpose, it examines the EU’s crisis of legitimacy first and then presents Habermas’ theoretical spectrum in detail in order to point out the potential it offers the EU for practical and normative legitimacy by way of legitimacy vectors. The book does not place any common limitations on the deliberative politics approach, but uses the whole scope of Habermas’ political theory. Therefore, it will appeal to researchers from the field of European studies and all those studying the work of Jürgen Habermas.
