Due to historical peculiarities, the profession of nonmedical CAM practitioners is characterized by a very limited legal framework. This study examines whether the current status quo meets the requirements of the German constitution. Building on that, it analyzes the constitutional limits on the implementation of potential reform proposals in order to define the scope of legislative discretion. Furthermore, the study takes a comparative perspective on Switzerland, which has only recently legally recognized a health profession focused on complementary medicine. At the heart of the entire study are the numerous fundamental rights that intersect within the law governing health professions.
