Hirntod und Organtransplantation

The number of organs donated by brain-dead donors is insufficient to meet the demand for donor organs in Austria and other countries. The authorities have introduced measures to ensure that deceased persons in hospitals with intensive care units are identified as potential donors and receive appropriate intensive care. The goal is to maintain and even increase the high number of organ donations. This second, revised edition of the volume includes new legal and medical findings and contributions on the ethical issues surrounding brain death and organ donation.

Walter Schaupp is Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology at the Catholic Faculty of the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz.
Wolfgang Kröll was Professor of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Med-ical University of Graz. They both continue to address issues of medical ethics in their scientific work.
