Description
The book offers a new perspective on Hölderlin's oeuvre. Previous interpretations understand the anger in his work in a metaphorical sense as enthusiasm or demonic possession. Hölderlin's poetry of anger, however, speaks of a deeply human emotion. He wants to express this anger. It runs through his entire oeuvre, from the poems of his youth to his first tower poems. In terms of anger theory, this poetry of anger is based on Aristotle, but is modified by other influences. It appears as the anger of the poet, as political anger in times of revolution and restoration, and finally as existential anger directed against the gods themselves. Achilles, Ajax and Oedipus are always present.
