Identität und Intoleranz

How do people deal with diversity – and when do they develop xenophobic, islamophobic and antisemitic attitudes? This book examines the role of collective identities in the perception of minorities and the interpretation of social threats. It focuses on a multidimensional understanding of identity that reveals different identity patterns in German society.
Using representative survey data, the author shows that threats and out-groups are perceived differently depending on identity patterns. By combining approaches from identity and values research, the book provides an interdisciplinary contribution to the understanding of social conflicts.
