Industrielle Transformation und männliche Lebenswelten

German industry is undergoing a transformation—and with it, the lived worlds of the skilled workers who symbolize it. This study shows that the crisis facing these companies is linked to another crisis: the disintegration of male-dominated communities in which work, recognition, and identity were historically intertwined. Based on ten biographical-narrative interviews with industrial skilled workers, the study reconstructs three ways of coping with these changes, combining research on precariousness with gender theory. Gender emerges as an effective, hidden structural category. Hannah Hecker conducts research at the University of Tübingen on political media discourses and their historical evolution.
