Description
Ethically and legally, patient information and consent represent a central requirement for the legitimation of medical treatment, especially in psychiatry.
The various European countries have developed distinct perspectives and diverse solutions for dealing with the problems that arise in this context.
This volume, the product of a BIOMED project of the European Commission, addresses central aspects of these important issues. It contains reports from nine European countries – Denmark, Germany, England/Wales, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain – as well as comparative analyses. These analyses point out international commonalities but also call attention to different ethical approaches to the issues and to variations between the current legal instruments.
The volume, with its interdisciplinary perspective, offers jurists and psychiatrists in particular a comprehensive survey of these politically significant health issues.
The editors are, respectively, experts in medical law, medical ethics and psychiatry.
