Description
Regulation is often seen as a driver for innovation. As regards the data and digital economy, the EU follows an approach of strict and early regulatory intervention. This is based on the idea that innovation should be in line with democratic values and fundamental rights. While this provides legal certainty and a robust framework for the development of innovative business models on the one hand, potential negative effects of regulatory intervention have to be taken into account on the other hand. This interplay between regulation and innovation raises numerous intriguing questions, to which young scholars presented forward-looking answers at the conference on 4-5 July 2025 in Munich.
