Institutionen der politischen Differenz

This study intervenes in the current debate on the ‘institutional deficit’ of theories of radical democracy. This family of democratic theories, which is sensitive to crisis diagnostics but rather weak in terms of institutional theory, is confronted with the diversity of understandings of institutions in social and political science. The heuristic developed for this purpose makes it clear, on the one hand, that different understandings of institutions are applied in the debate. On the other hand, the institutional considerations by key radical democratic authors themselves (Chantal Mouffe, Jacques Rancière) and in various further developments can thereby be identified and analysed in a nuanced manner. In particular, institutions of political difference can be discussed.
