Integration ohne Mitgliedschaft

Association agreements constitute a fundamental legal and political possibility for the European Union to establish specal international relations with a third partner. By establishing an association, the partner is going to be integrated in the Union’s legal order without becoming a part of it and the possibility to influence it. The book scrutinizes the fundamental provision of art. 217 TFEU as an external competence by also relying on the jurisprudence of the ECJ and the practice of the EU organs in concluding association agreements. In this context, mixed agreements, the Brexit as well as the European Neighbourhood Policy are discussed as well.
