Description
During their recent boom, research projects and academic debates about refugees and forced migration were often restricted to disciplinary frameworks. Yet, a cross disciplinary understanding both conditions and challenges this diverse research field. Grasping the complexity of this research topic requires multiple epistemological perspectives.
Based on years of cooperation and multidisciplinary exchange about the foundations of research on refugees and forced migration, the authors of this study each analyse the topic with specific approaches and methods. In doing so, they reflect upon the possibilities and limitations of their own disciplines as well as their relationships to other disciplines. The book takes up five fundamental topics in refugee studies: 1) who is a refugee?, 2) access to protection, 3) forced migration and human rights, 4) forced migration and gender, and 5) ethics and normativity. This dialogue across disciplines contributes to a more complex understanding of refugees and forced migration and encourages further interdisciplinary research into refugees and forced migration.
With contributions by
Jürgen Bast, Marcel Berlinghoff, Sibylle de la Rosa, Cordula v. Denkowski, J. Olaf Kleist, Ulrike Krause, Anna Lübbe, Nora Markard, Boris Nieswand, Jochen Oltmer, Patrice Poutrus, Albert Scherr, Karin Scherschel, Julia Schulze Wessel and Helen Schwenken.
