International Forum for Schenkerian Research

The second volume of the book series "International Forum for Schenkerian Research" (IFSR) contains articles on the theory, analysis, and history of Schenkerian analysis: William Rothstein describes Schenker’s use of terms such as “Zug,” “diatonicism,” and “chroma.” Eric Wen examines formal techniques in Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony. Trevor Hofelich analyzes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12 from a prolongational perspective. Channan Willner focuses on hierarchical aspects of the hemiola. Arthur Maisel explores the thesis that Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” was conceived as the American counterpart to Berg’s “Wozzeck.” Bernard Haas and Veronica Diederen postulate that many of Bach’s works contain exactly eight structural levels.
