Ironie des Schicksals im Einzelnen

We live in times of rapid change and endless possibilities – in the age of contingency. But how can we orient ourselves when every idea is exchangeable, when every certainty has become an illusion? The work explores two contrasting ways of dealing with this all-encompassing contingency, which have their beginnings in the existential philosophy of human finitude and can be translated into a practical philosophy of narrative authenticity. The latter is concerned with the individual and crystallizes into a discovery and directive, as Marquard's unagitated consent to contingency or Rorty's ironic use of contingency: We can all make history – at least the history of our own existence.
